The forest knows the silence

I have walked the sands of the Namib,

Where the winds blow dune over dune,

I have seen the shadows of evil

And I heard the cries of women

Echoing in the emptiness of the desert

I have felt the sting of bullets

And knives tearing through flesh and bone.

I have stood witness to the brutalities

Rapes and torture of the innocents

May Namibians reclaim their peace

The forest knows the silent predators.

Our hearts are like broken branches

Weeping like over flowing rivers

Its currents carrying stories of bodies

Violated,burned and cut through

The forest knows the truth

  1. This poem addresses the current situation of young girls being murdered by unknown……only if forests have mouths to speak out.
